Christianity and new ageism can not, do not and will not mix.

I wrote this piece last night after being inspired for less than a day to write it. I was up all night long thinking about it and I want to say before you dive in that I’m approaching the subjects from a very broad view because my audience is Christians who might be dabbling in it but if not fully gone all the way in . There are lot of other great places and people who address individually the different beliefs and go so far as to debunk the fact that they could even be right in the 1st place minus Christianity. However that’s not what I’m doing here, right now. I’m just addressing the believer who might be starting to get pulled into these things. I also really want to encourage you if this is intriguing to you to check out Steven bancarz on YouTube. He speaks in depth about a lot of these things.

“In the scores of books lining the shelves of new age bookstores, there are instructions for guided mediation, creative visualizations, out of body experiences, getting In touch with your spirit guides, fortune telling boards, crystal balls or stars. what if Satanists reclaimed these for their own dark purposes an integrated them into rituals dedicated to the devil where the New agers have freely drawn all manner of satanic material adapting it to their own hypocritical purposes?….  In truth, all new age labeling is again trying to play the Devils game without using his infernal name – Anton Levay (the guy who started the church of satan) quoted in church of Satan by blanch Barton

The church is so extremely flawed. As are most things ran by people. The true church of God is not an organization. Rather it is a group of interested, devoted individuals who seek God together. It’s going to be difficult not to get into a whole bunch of theological background noise. As I know different denominations hold slightly different beliefs but I’m trying to address the church, capital C.

Not my church, not just yours, not one specific denomination or sect. But the real believers as individuals and a whole who live and breath by God and His truth. The ones who want to please God and see His spirit move. And if those things don’t apply to you then please don’t pain or trouble yourself by continuing to read. I’ve said time and time again, most the time that I write it will be for strong believers. But I’ve had numerous people who don’t consider themselves to be strong believers read what I write and then try to debate me on what I’m saying.

That’s like a kindergartener taking a 5th grade math test and trying debate the teacher over the grade received. It makes no sense. If you are not a strong believer then there is no fundamental groundwork for what I’m going to say and there’s no way you could possibly apply it to you.

I don’t think this is so much the church’s fault. I think this is happening due to individuals not taking their time to seek out and know God. We want a quick tangible way to feel spiritual things.

We are spiritual beings. So it’s right that we want to take care of that. The same way we are beings inside of bodies and we attempt to take care of our bodies.

If I had a friend who was eating whatever she could to make her feel good (chocolate, bread, sweets, alcohol) and saying she was taking care of her body because she was making it feel good, would I correct her for being wrong, or would I agree with her and say she’s right as long as she feels good? I would of course tell her she’s going to get sick. Even achieving goals with our body takes extreme pressure and hard work.

We are so parched spiritually that we are quick to consume whatever spiritual thing we can without discerning is it really of God? But when I see brothers and sisters who lead and who proclaim to be a follower of Christ dipping into things that are not mentioned in the gospel or not a part of the gospel, it hurts my heart.

I’m going to try to break it down.

I’m going to start with what is new ageism. “New Age is a compilation of metaphysical, Eastern-influenced thought systems. These thought systems unite theology, nature, and philosophy. This movement comprises countless “theologies” that often center on religious tolerance and moral diversity. The main phrases (or “isms”) that reveal the focal point of New Age thought are “feel-goodism” (do whatever feels good, as long as you are not hurting someone else), “moral relativism” (situational ethics), and “pluralism” (universal tolerance)…..New Age is generally tolerant of almost any world religion or philosophy, it is opposed to the “narrow-mindedness” of Christianity that teaches Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal salvation. New Age philosophy is complicated to define because there is no centralized hierarchy, doctrine, or membership. At its foundation, the New Age movement is a religious system with two main doctrines: Evolutionary Godhood and Global Unity.”

So basically a religious trail mix concoction built around how the person holding the belief system wants to feel… it’s a buffet of belief where you can choose whatever fits your lifestyle. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. That in itself is contradictory to God’s word. We know Matthew 7: 13-14 says – “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” It’s a lot easier to be at a buffet than to sit at home alone and eat a salad. But nontheless… we try to over compensate for the spiritual truth we are lacking with spiritual falsehoods and we will never be satisfied.

If you’re still reading and you’re a believer which means you profess that “God exists as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Son of God who fulfilled Old Testament prophecies when He took on human flesh through the miracle of the virgin birth and came to Earth as the promised Messiah. Jesus died a physical death on the cross as the ultimate love sacrifice and act of grace, which allows all who believe in Him to be cleansed of sin by His blood and have a renewed, eternal relationship with God. Jesus rose from the dead as the ultimate sign of his deity. He ascended to heaven, with the ultimate promise of his return to Earth as our just and mighty Lord.” And best of all, he left us his holy spirit to guide us as we make disciples. John14:16-18, Luke 24:49, Matthew 28:19-20.

The spiritual battle

“Our spiritual battles and warfare are real, even though we cannot physically see the attacker. But, we can educate ourselves on how the battles are fought and how they impact our lives on a daily basis” says biblestudytools .com.

We can imply from many verses, but especially from Ephesians 6:12 that there is a heavenly realm and in it battles, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

So there is a war going on. And it make no sense to ignore it and pretend it goes away. There are powers that are dark. Well how do we know? John says to test the sprit, 1 John 4: 1-21 – “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. …”

The problem

We are putting hope in a spiritual something else. The bible tells us very clearly where to put our hope. Psalm 91 says the one who lives under the protection of the most high dwells in the shadows of the almighty. “This is not referring to anything other than God. Isiah 41:10 says “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.” I AM is referring to God, Yahweh, The Lord of the Heavens.

Acts 17:28 says “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.” Once again “Him” is referring to Jesus. These eastern philosophies are asking you to put your hope in other things that are not God. Asking you to put your hope in “energy.” In “crystals” Where you put your hope is where the weight of security lies. Our security is to be in God alone. Not in energy; not in spiritual philosophies derived from a religion that worships false gods.

Why would we put our hope in something other than God?

Because we’re uncomfortable in our hurt or our struggle. We desperately want a tangible source to fill that spiritual longing. We should be careful, however, for not all spiritual things are good or of God. C.s Lewis says in Mere Christianity, “The devil loves ‘curing’ a small fault by giving you a great one.” Satan is having a field day with new ageism in the church.

Be careful with what spiritual things you do just for the sake of occupying your spiritual pallet. The same way chocolate tastes good but is not good for your body, is the same way that not all things that feel good spiritually are really going to benefit you. There is one gospel. One way, truth and light and that is the only way to God – John 14:6 says.

Another problem is that we are allowing these things while we are expanding God’s word. We are adding things to the gospel that Jesus didn’t say when He was living. If we believe that Jesus was God’s son and that scripture is God’s word, spirit breathed – 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” Then we have to trust that if we were supposed to believe in energy levels or energy portals or whatever spiritual teaching that are feel good and captivating, Jesus would have said something very specific. Matthew 5:18 “For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Revelation 22:19 “And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away His share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”

To God be the Glory.

  1. Great post! Oprah Winfrey seems to be the queen of the New Age movement, saying anything can be your higher power. She seems to be the most popular woman on the planet.

    1. Not to us who know.. so we need to do what we can to speak truth in love. Thanks for reading.
